A) Objectives
of eTrain
More than a list of courses, trainee attendance records and banks of videotapes, A eTrain can best be defined as a network of interdependent components working together to try and accomplish the goal of the system. Without a goal, there is no training system. This goal is defined at the Front End Processing stage, courses are designed and evaluation system is programmed to achieve the desired objectives
A self-auditing system provides a high degree of efficiency and effectiveness over a long period of time. Built-in tool like 'batting average' of correct responses for a given question provides a means to examine the performance of the test material and test qustion. Over a broad spectrum, this evaluative tool can be used to closely define future questions, sort out too-difficult or too-easy questions, develop a profile for a given group, tailor future training requirements, quality assessment and, as time progresses, provide a measurement of return on investment.
B) Management
of Training Program
A eTrain would include tools for the management of class, content management aqnd lesson management.
· Class Management - Used when working with students within a particular class. Supports enrollment and maintenance of all the student information such as scores, absences, graduation, attrition, and discharge. It is also used to maintain student records and manage the in-processing and out-processing of students. · Course Management - Supports companies in managing training courses, associated evaluation plans, and other course material. · Lesson Management - Supports management of lesson material. This includes test information at the learning step level. Provides an objective/test item bank which allows performance based tests to be developed and administered. Prints and presents exams. Captures electronic responses, scores exams and facilitates the evaluation of training effectiveness.
· Navigation Units are structured into small elements so that learners can easily leave and return to the current point, using a bookmarking facility or a system of menus. Unless otherwise notified by a managed learning environment from which the materials are accessed, the learner is provided with an indication of those units of the course that they have not yet visited, partially completed or fully completed. Where screens are displayed in sequence, buttons are available to permit the learner to proceed forwards and go back to previous screens, and an indication is provided of the position in the sequence of the current screen and of the total number of screens.

Contractor Training
The delivery of Training package is also affected by the status of trainee. Typically operator and management personnel would have access to corporate intra-net. For this group, the most suitable method could be an integrated eTrain system based on intra-net aceess. The intra-net would provide a platform to store and process records of individual training sessions.
For situations where access to corporate network ios not feasible or advisable, like the training requirements for the contractors web-based system would provide a suitable alternative for training delivery. The web-based system can be accessed at a third-party office with controlled sign-in and sign out with physical identification of the attendees
For situations where physical identification is not required, the contractor can undertake the course material and the test through web. |
